Our Year In Review

The year 2022 has been an exciting one for Whitakers. With our new development well underway over at on Manchester Road, we’ve not just been kept busy with the planning and preparation of our grand opening but have also been very busy working with the local community and our customers to make this year one to remember!

Let’s look back at what we’ve been up to before we gear up for another year of fun with all the Whitakers team.

Our 2022 Charity Work

The local community in Prescot that surrounds Whitakers is very important to our business, and we’ll always try and do our very best to support it in any way we can.

So, our lovely team did exactly that! In 2022, we supported several primary schools throughout the town, donating plants and seeds, gardening equipment and even USB drives to the pupils to help them with their educational journeys.

We also teamed up with Malvern Primary school this Christmas to donate custom-made Christmas presents to them. This included lovely potted planters with bulbs and compost, as well as a selection of festive decorations straight from our store!

In addition to this, we’ve also maintained positive relationships with several community organisations, including the Huyton Guides and Brownies, Mental Health Matters, Merseyside Youth Association, Cash for Kids, Eaton Street Park, Liverpool Homeless Football Club, and The Mayfield Fellowship. We have happily provided these groups with gifts, plants, gardening supplies, and even tickets to our annual Santa's Grotto.

In short, we’ve been very busy bees. But we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Our 2022 Events

Over the past 12 months, Whitakers have not only participated in, but have also hosted some brilliant events for our customers and community, did you know?!

The Knowsley Flower Show

In early August, we headed over to the Knowsley Flower Show where our stall was centered around Willowbrook hospice. Our beautiful stand was filled with flowers and plants for the public, alongside our biodegradable plant bags which went down a treat! We also held a competition to ‘guess the seed count’ where all our proceeds went to charity. It was great fun.

The Women’s Refuge

In early December, our wonderful team helped at the local Woman’s Refuge Centre by designing and building a tranquil garden as a place of respite for members escaping domestic abuse. The project was amazing to be a part of, and we managed to donate a massive five, yes FIVE tones of compost, as well as a range of seeds, gardening equipment and more to the cause. The women and children involved within the center were very grateful and even joined us in the preparation of the garden.

Christmas at Whitakers

Bringing us to the present, we’ve just wrapped up a fantastic Christmas schedule at Whitakers, that was jam-packed with events, food and of course… Flowers! We welcomed our customers and community across the end of November and through to December to enjoy a Christmas like no other.

Shoppers got to enjoy some special Whitakers-made festive scones, mulled wine, and juice for the kids! Children also had the opportunity to meet Santa (thanks to the return of our famous grotto), participate in our very own treasure hunt, and of course get their hands on some goodies!

Adults also got into the Christmas events with the chance to win some prizes with a ‘guess the number of snowballs in a jar’, with the winner receiving a 3-course Christmas meal for two at the café. We had a fantastic time and raised over £100 for Zoe’s Place baby hospice and Willowbrook.

Looking To 2023 – Our New Site

And finally, it’s what we know you’ve all been waiting for… An exciting update from our Manchester Road site…

Fancy a first look at our BIGGER and better bistro? It’ll be serving the menu you know and love, plus a few extras.

  • The new eatery will be separate from the garden centre, giving you a more relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a coffee in
  • We have extended our seating area to 100 seats, plus an outdoor area
  • That outdoor seating will include an extra 30 seats and is now pet-friendly too
  • Furry friends will have the chance to have a little snack along with their owners. Why not treat your four-legged friend to a puppachino and a treat?
  • Did someone say breakfast?! Our new menu will include all the items you know and love, and then some! We’ll be revealing the full details soon but know that they will be worth the wait

Finally, we’ll be introducing a coffee club at Whitakers which our team are very excited about. Enjoy a coffee (or tea) and earn points on your Whitakers card. You can then accumulate points and spend in the café or throughout the store!

2022 has been another crazy year for us at Whitakers, but we are VERY excited to continue all our hard work with our community and customers, as well as striving to make the new Whitakers better than ever in the new year!

Merry Christmas from everyone at Whitakers and we’ll see you in 2023!
